The first time
I was confused about what new activity do I need to choose. Then Ms. Cris suggested
Yoga classes, Specially Power Yoga. So I thought about it, why not? Having fun as the
same time as I do my research. So I decided to go and try it with Ms. Cris. When I
arrived there, they welcomed me, explain to me some Power Yogas basics, showed
me the place, and Ms. Cris was there. I met the class instructor Mr. Alan who moved
us into a big room, and that was the room that we are going to do Yoga in it, it was warm,
or I will say HOT, because the temperature was around 76 F. Before we started the class
they gave me a matt, towel, block, and water since I didnt bring mine. So we started the
class, it was easy at the beginning. But then it started to get harder and harder. Because I
was swatting a lot, and also my knees starts hurting me, because I didnt used on this type
of exercises. So at the end they gave us a Lavender cold towel, to help us to relax and to
wipe our bodies and clean it after the sweating. So that was hard for me at the first time,
although that my instructor told me I was good.
The second time
The second time was the best one, because now I have a background about what we are
going to do. So I went to the studio, and I met my new instructor Mr. Damon, he was
easygoing and sociable. We started the class by warming up. Then we started doing
almost the same exercises that we did last time. This time the training wasnt as
hard as last time. It was a lot easier, because I knew how to do the training in the
right way, and how to relax while doing it. So I didnt have as much trouble as I had
last time. When I met Mr. Damon after the class, he was happy for me.
The third time
The third time wasnt like what I was expected; it was harder then the past two
times. Because of to reasons, the first one is that I challenged my self to do two
classes Consecutively. So this was the second class, and that was 15 minuets after
the first class finished. It was hard for me because all my body was hurting me,
specially my knees, and also it was hard for me to breath. The second reason is the
class was like a high level class. It was hard, and Ms. Samantha the instructor Was
doing the exercises so quickly. So that made me tired and I couldnt complete the
class.

Ethnography is a method of social science research where the researcher participates in the
activities, whatever they may be. This means that you are a scientist who does as the others do.
Your laboratory, however, is not a closed, isolated space. Your experiment takes place in the
world around.
Once more, your tasks as the researcher are BOTH to PARTICIPATE and OBSERVE the
activity, event, or context you have chosen for your project.
Points to keep in mind as you begin your ethnography/ethnographic research :
1. Not everything all the time will be roses and fresh baked cookies. There may be
some discomfort and awkwardness involved, which may be physical or
psychological depending on your project. If so,
2. Smile and acknowledge these emotions
3. These feelings are important to the experience you are having
4. Always show respect to the other participants and instructors/leaders involved, even
if you disagree and cannot understand what they are doing.
Students, you will need to
1. Choose an activity, organization/club, or event as your essay topic and have it
approved by me
2. Organize your schedule so that you can participate in the activity or organizations
events 3 times before October 22, 2015
For your research,
1. Remember that you will participate (do/learn) as the others in the group or class do.

are doing (the activities, the prayers, the dance, the whatever) and how the activities
